About Me

Hello there, thanks for dropping in. My name is Aarthi. In this blog, you may find a book review, thoughts on a podcast, a favorite recipe, maybe a piece of creative writing.

I work in finance, which I love, and my career has evolved from investment banking to fin-tech. I have always loved writing and started this blog as a space for my creative expression. I wrote my very first piece, a foray into poetry titled “My First Starry Poem,” when I was four.

My life is heavily influenced by my upbringing…I lived in India, Singapore, the United States, and now, England. My life experiences in these diverse cultures shaped the way in which I learn and absorb the information around me. My mother, who died suddenly and without warning when I was 29, had a Masters in French & English Literature and taught the subject for many years. She was a constant student – taking up Japanese, Ikebana, and painting well into her midlife. My father is a history buff, a doting dad and husband, and a fitness fanatic. He gave us lots of hugs growing up and took us all around the world to travel. My earliest memories are of travelling with my family. I got my love for non-fiction from my mother; my love for the outdoors from my father.

While my mother was gentle and soft, my father is gregarious and commanding. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage because of a meeting of their minds. They are both equally curious about the world around them…constantly informing themselves through reading and asking questions. They inculcated their curiosity in me. I will be the first to admit that I am a bit of a nerd and like to push out of my comfort zone when choosing what to read or to listen to. I also happen to be incredibly active and outdoorsy – skiing, tennis, and yoga are activities I immensely enjoy. Being in the mountains, especially, gives me great peace of mind. I am a lover of fashion and the visual arts…and have a soft spot for culinary adventures. I read Economics at Dartmouth College and chose most of my electives in English Literature. I then obtained an MBA at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, specialising in Entrepreneurship.
